The following breeds of dog are subject to a restricted right of possession:

  • Bull Terrier;

  • Staffordshire Bull Terrier;

  • American Pit Bull Terrier;

  • American Staffordshire Terrier;

  • A hybrid dog bred from a dog of a race mentioned above and a dog of another race;

  • A mixed race dog that possesses the substantial characteristics of a dog of a race listed above;                 


Important Reminder 



When an animal subject to a restricted right of possession is off its property and travelling on public roads or in public places, in addition to being leashed, it must be wearing a basket muzzle. In addition, the dog's guardian must also post and maintain a written notice on his property which can be easily seen from public land and which bears the words “Attention – chien dangereux”, provided at the time of issue of the licence.
 
The restricted right of possession is nullified when the owner of the subject dog violates this regulation, when the subject dog is absent from Brossard for a duration of more than 9 months or upon the death of the dog. This right is not transferable from one owner to another or from one dog to another. Any dog having lost the benefits conferred by the restricted right of possession is prohibited within the city limits.
